چکیده
The recent introduction of diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) and the thiosemicarbazones represents a significant contribution in the treatment of leprosy. The efficacy of DDS has been confirmed by a number of well-controlled observations (1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11). The effectiveness of thiosemicarbazone still remains to be evaluated (3, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14). For both drugs, the periods of observation have been brief. In the present report a comparison is made of the clinical and bacteriological results obtained in 60 cases of lepromatous leprosy treated as inpatients at the Hospital for Hansen's 'Disease in Jerusalem, with DDS or thiosemicarbazone or with DDS followed by thiosemicarbazone. The observations indicate that both drugs influence leprosy favorably, and that thiosemicarbazone is somewhat more efficacious than DDS.

Langerhans Cells in Skin Lesions of Leprosy
Background: Langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy. A recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. Objective: To investigate a possible relationship between the number of Langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. Methods: An immunohistochemical staining for S100 prot...

About 1,200 million viable lymphocytes from normal but lepromin- and tuberculin-positive human beings were transfused in four patients of lepromatous and one of tuberculoid leprosy three times at monthly intervals. Three patients of lepromatous leprosy suffered from erythema modosum, whereas the other two developed severe reaction whenever put on the smallest dose of dapsone. In one patient of ...

After 15 months of treatment this patient attained bacteriological negativity and clinical inactivity. Histopathologically the patient upgraded to borderline-tuberculoid at 12 months, and at 15 months showed features of nonsp...

In a related article,2 they reported the development of weakly posi tive lepromin reactions in some lepromatous patients tr...
متن کاملDe-Novo Presentation of Histoid Leprosy on an Unusual Site
Histoid Leprosy (HL) is a rare variant of Lepromatous Leprosy, occurring in long-standing cases, mostly in a background of acquired drug resistance. Patients usually present with sudden onset multiple nodules and plaques, most often involving the skin and subcutaneous tissue of trunk and lower limbs. Here we report an unusual case of de novo (without any history of prior anti-leprotic therapy) ...
